A Personal Word from Rev. Papillon, Ph.D.

My awakening has been exciting, terrifying, exhilarating and most of all, bumpy. Yet, each challenge, each seeming obstacle has truly been a door to new life.

I am not the psychologist I was when I received my license. I have much more depth of understanding and certainly am humbler, knowing first hand what it takes to climb out of the depths of despair, chaos, judgment, rejection and so on. My firm, unwavering conviction is that if you choose to recover (to get back to where you started as a pure Soul entering into this earthly form of being) you must equally address the spiritual aspects of your being with the psychological components of your personality. As a result of the set of experiences I went through for over a year, I took the training necessary to become an ordained minister embracing ALL faiths as One.

I am committed to the truth that both together is what sets you free – free from searching, free from suffering, free from “there’s-only-one-way” view of healing, free from blame, free from the belief that you must choose between “praying it away” or “psychologizing it away.”

You will then know what real freedom is – freedom from misery and freedom to be all you already are.

Lucy

Dr. Lucy Papillon defines spirituality as the courage to look within and to trust.   What is seen and what is trusted is a deep sense of belonging, of wholeness, of connectedness and of openness to the Infinite. She became much more aware of how spirituality was crucial in recovering and reclaiming seven years ago when a tragic set of circumstances forced her to completely rebuild her personal and professional life.   However, she indeed knows that “to lose one’s life is to find it,” albeit on a different, more substantive level.   The sacred wound is the critical act through which mortals can profoundly experience their Divinity.   In fact, she now produces and hosts a television show called Breaking Through which came out of her insights from that “death to birth” experience.

In the spiritual arena, for example, she has studied every major religion in depth: Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, Judaism… as well as the Course in Miracles.   She has been in workshops and lectures with such diverse pioneers as Huston Smith, Joan Borysenko, Deepak Chopra, Ram Dass, Matthew Fox, Jean Houston, Lynn Andrews, Marianne Williamson, Wayne Dyer, Gerald Jampolski, Marion Woodman and numerous others. She has been in conferences given by Common Boundary, American Psychological Association, Creativity and Madness and Association for Transpersonal Psychology among others, both as a participant and speaker.   She has also taken concepts from her rich traditional background in Protestantism.

Thus, Dr. Papillon has been able to draw from a vast array of spiritual teachings and philosophies and add them to her outstanding training as a psychologist to conceive a one-of-a-kind approach for individuals, couples, families, organizations and corporations.

Dr. Papillon has written two landmark books, When Hope Can Kill – Reclaiming Your Soul in a Romantic Relationship and Turning Terror to Triumph – Amazing Grace from Seven Verses in Psalms.   She has been published in Women and Power and the Journal of Feminist Family Therapy.   She has also been interviewed by such varied publications as the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, Mademoiselle, Fitness Magazine, and the American Psychological Association Monitor.   In addition, Dr. Papillon is an internationally known speaker and media psychologist.
